    Nuclei embedded in an electron gas

    The properties of nuclei embedded in an electron gas are studied within the relativistic mean-field approach. These studies are relevant for nuclear properties in astrophysical environments such as neutron-star crusts and supernova explosions. The electron gas is treated as a constant background in the Wigner-Seitz cell approximation. We investigate the stability of nuclei with respect to alpha and beta decay. Furthermore, the influence of the electronic background on spontaneous fission of heavy and superheavy nuclei is analyzed. We find that the presence of the electrons leads to stabilizing effects for both α\alpha decay and spontaneous fission for high electron densities. Furthermore, the screening effect shifts the proton dripline to more proton-rich nuclei, and the stability line with respect to beta decay is shifted to more neutron-rich nuclei.     DAY HOSPITAL FOR EARLY INTERVENTION FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS

    In long-term outcome studies on individuals with first-episode psychosis, improved remission and recovery rates perhaps reflect the improved treatment in dedicated early intervention program. The first episode is a critical period in which individuals with psychosis, as well as members of their families, are confronted with the illness for the first time. Until nowadays, treatment of first psychotic episodes in Croatia has usually been provided in hospital setting. The day hospital provides comprehensive therapeutic approach that refers to early systematic application of all available and effective therapeutic methods in the initial phases of psychotic disorders, and aims to attain and maintain remission and recovery, as well as insight and adherence to treatment. The day hospital is a time-limited structured program that comprises diagnostic procedures, treatment and rehabilitation based on various group psychotherapy and socio-therapy approaches. It is cheaper than hospital treatment and preferred by patients and their families. The importance of involving family members along with patients in the therapeutic process is recognized.     Local Data Assimilation in the Estimation of Barotropic and Baroclinic Open Boundary Conditions

    The problem of data assimilation in the specification of open boundary conditions for limited area models is addressed in this paper. Optimization approaches are detailed, which are based on combining available data on an open boundary with the physics of the hydrodynamical model. In our case the physics is in terms of the flux of energy through the open boundary. These optimized boundary conditions, for both barotropic and baroclinic situations, interpreted physically as special Linearizations of the Bernoulli equation for each normal mode. Because of the complexity of decomposing variables into normal modes for open boundaries with varying bathymetry, we present two alter native approaches. The first is a simplification of the optimized baroclinic boundary condition based on normal modes. The second makes use of empirical orthogonal functions instead of normal modes. The results of testing and comparisons of these approaches are presented for coupling coarse- and fine-resolution models. In this case our approach is in assimilating values and variables from a large-scale model. (along the open boundaries of a limited area model). In the proposed coupling schemes the energy fluxes are estimated either from coarse or from fine-grid model results. With the progress of oceanographic observing systems we would like to explore ways of combining model outputs with the oceanographic measurements in order to estimate energy fluxes used in optimized open boundary conditions

    Understanding Game-based Approaches for Improving Sustainable Water Governance : The Potential of Serious Games to Solve Water Problems

    The sustainable governance of water resources relies on processes of multi-stakeholder collaborations and interactions that facilitate knowledge co-creation and social learning. Governance systems are often fragmented, forming a barrier to adequately addressing the myriad of challenges affecting water resources, including climate change, increased urbanized populations, and pollution. Transitions towards sustainable water governance will likely require innovative learning partnerships between public, private, and civil society stakeholders. It is essential that such partnerships involve vertical and horizontal communication of ideas and knowledge, and an enabling and democratic environment characterized by informal and open discourse. There is increasing interest in learning-based transitions. Thus far, much scholarly thinking and, to a lesser degree, empirical research has gone into understanding the potential impact of social learning on multi-stakeholder settings. The question of whether such learning can be supported by forms of serious gaming has hardly been asked. This Special Issue critically explores the potential of serious games to support multi-stakeholder social learning and collaborations in the context of water governance. Serious games may involve simulations of real-world events and processes and are challenge players to solve contemporary societal problems; they, therefore, have a purpose beyond entertainment. They offer a largely untapped potential to support social learning and collaboration by facilitating access to and the exchange of knowledge and information, enhancing stakeholder interactions, empowering a wider audience to participate in decision making, and providing opportunities to test and analyze the outcomes of policies and management solutions. Little is known about how game-based approaches can be used in the context of collaborative water governance to maximize their potential for social learning. While several studies have reported examples of serious games, there is comparably less research about how to assess the impacts of serious games on social learning and transformative change

    Identifying stakeholder perspectives and worldviews on sustainable urban tourism development using a Q-sort methodology.

    Abstract: Tourism growth, particularly in cities, is coming under increased scrutiny. However, even often visited cities appear to find it difficult to agree upon a strategy to limit tourism growth. The current paper investigates this issue by looking at the extent to which different stakeholders’ perspectives on tourism development align. Q-sort methodology is employed to find the main worldviews and the extent to which they are shared by stakeholders in similar roles (e.g. policymakers, industry, resident). Results point to the existence of five different worldviews, which differ in the extent to which tourism growth is desirable or problematic and whether resident participation is advantageous or counterproductive. Stakeholders have highly different worldviews, even those with similar roles, which may help explain the difficulty to change the tourism growth paradigm as they limit opportunities for generating new consensus-based collective solutions. If we accept that tourism development strategies are driven and informed at least in part by individual worldviews, it may be impossible to make ‘objective’ policy choices. Instead, it might be more useful to explore possibilities to allow stakeholders to express their worldviews to better understand what sustainable tourism development entails for different people at different places and moments in time

    Gamification of the work floor: A literature review of gamifying production and logistics operations

    We review the current body of academic literature concerning gamification of production and logistics. The findings indicate that production execution and control has been addressed most often in the current body of literature, which consists mostly of design research. Objectives and goals, points, achievements, multimedial feedback, metaphorical/fictional representations, and levels and progress are currently most often employed gamification affordances on this field. The research has focused on examining or considering motivation, enjoyment and flow as the main psychological outcomes of gamification in the given context, while individual performance and efficiency are the most commonly examined or suggested behavioral/organizational impacts. Future studies should employ more rigorous study designs and firmly ground the discussions in organization theory

    TREATMENT OF PATIENTS IN EARLY PHASE OF PSYCHOSIS ON PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC INPATIENT UNIT – PRESENTATION OF THE THERAPEUTIC PROGRAMME AND EVALUATION OF SOME ASPECTS

    Background: Treatment of early phase of psychosis is important not only for overcoming the acute symptoms but also for the later treatment and attitude towards the illness. Psychotherapeutic approach is an integrative part of this treatment. In Psychiatric hospital "Sveti Ivan" in Zagreb, Croatia both psychotherapeutic and sociotherapeutic methods are used on the inpatient unit for young people with psychosis along with medications. The aim of this work is to present the work on the psychotherapeutic inpatient unit and to investigate whether during the hospitalisation of individuals with first psychotic episode changes occur in attitudes towards medications, quality of life, insight and self-esteem. Subjects and methods: 37 individuals with first psychotic episode (20 men, 17 women) completed the following battery of questionnaires upon hospital admission and before discharge: Drug attitude inventory (DAI-10), The World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL), Insight scale and Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale. Results: Before being discharged from hospital, patients assessed their quality of life as significantly improved over time (p=0.000), especially concerning their physical health (p=0.004), psychological health (p=0.004), and satisfaction with their environment (p=0.001). Also, positive trends were observed in attitudes towards drugs and self-esteem. No changes were shown regarding patients´ insight. Conclusions: The findings are encouraging: during treatment on psychotherapeutic inpatient unit, significant improvement in quality of life was observed, as well as positive trends in self-esteem and attitudes towards medications
